New 'name'!!!!! new blog!! come join me!! :)

Hi everyone, sorry for the mia over the past week or so. I have been thinking for a little while about changing my old business 'name' to something that reflected me, my art and embraced same.

I am usually pretty ordinary at selecting a name and I can procrastinate on it for a long time! I felt that Kazs Krafty Korner, whilst it's nice, didn't quite fully represent who I was or what I was doing and continuing to do with learning and developing my Art.

So anyways, I have finally decided on a new name, Art takes Flight :) I love it and I hope u do too! I am still rearranging and transferring and creating accounts left, right and centre with the new name, which means for this particular blog addy, I will be closing down in the coming weeks.

Once I get back up and running properly with things like my weekly collage journal, etc you will now find me and all posts from here on in at

www.arttakesflightblog.blogspot.com.au

Soon I hope to create a piece of art which I can use as part of my new header for the blog, until then it's a little plain....

I hope that my few followers will join my new blog, pretty please?? lol!!!!!

as always, thanks for looking and see you at Art takes Flight :)

Collage Journal entry & homemade stamp

Time for another Collage Journal page. Kept this one a little simpler this week, my only idea initially was I wanted to use a new stamp I had hand carved myself last week. I love arrows and chevron patterns and for ages I wanted a stamp with that style. I have seen many people carve their own stamps using the proper stamp carving gear, but I don't have any of that atm! So, I went with the alternative option and got some cheap erasers and using my Cutterbee craft knife I made my own stamp, I'm rapt with it, I love it, it's my first 'handmade stamp'!

This pic shows the stamp and an example of the impression on a partial created Journal page...

Here's what I came up with using the stamp for my Collage page, hope you like it:)

supplies used:

Music collage journal, homemade rubber stamp, washi tape, 7 gypsies gaffer tape, kaisercraft paper (words), distressed circle stamp, october afternoon abc stickers, gesso, permaball pilot pen.

Instagram

Instagram is probably my most favourite app on my iPhone. I love it.
It's gotten me inspired again to taking pics and with the added bonus (my fave part) of snazzying them up with different filters and other cool things like borders, text, masking tape!!

If you are not familiar with Instagram, I came across this recent post by FatMumSlim - How to use Instagram

There's a bunch of different photo apps that let you get a cool look every time. It's great to be able to capture those spontaneous moments & special memories in that old Polaroid style with a modern twist.

The other day I came across this article and I was like OMG!!! How stinkin cute is this, I hope this comes out, at a good price lol

The pictures in Instagram, as with the old Polaroid, are square, which at the moment photo printing booths aren't set up for, I asked in Kmart and they are apparently hoping to be able to include printing Instagram size pics in the near future!

I did, however, come across a site Printstagram which will print your Instagram pics in not only 2 different sizes but also as stickers and other fun things! If anyone knows of anywhere in Australia that can print them, please let me know!! Thanks for looking :)

I took this pic a few weeks ago of one of my mums camellia flowers, it's such a gorgeous shade of pink, it makes me very happy :)

Collage Journal entry

So....it's been a week since my last post! After last Tuesdays lovely sunny (but still cool) day, the weather did a downhill and so did the kids and me with colds and yukky stuff.

But, luckily, we are all feeling better, the kids had a curriculum day yesterday and my partner even had an RDO so it was a nice relaxing together day yesterday.

Today was back to school and work and for me, well I did some catchup grocery shopping this morning and then I was able to play, first time in days!!!

Because I missed last weeks collage journal entry, that's what I got messy with. I had some new washi tape come in the post yesterday and some other bits and pieces, so I used a few of these on my page. Hope you like it!

products used:

printed paper kraft bag i received as packaging, gesso, washi tapes, jute, stamps, spray, paper scraps.

Sunshiney Day

It's a beautiful sunny day in Melbourne today, can't wait for Summer to come!

Sunday 5 August 2012

Collage Journal entry

I'm back with my Collage Journal page for this week. This page is perhaps a bit non traditional 'collage', but it was something I've wanted to try for ages and it is using a minimal amount of product!

I haven't titled it as I think it really looks cute as is. I'm definitely going to be doing more birdies in the future.

products used:

Various Tim Holtz tissue tapes, Decoupage, Faber Castell TK4600 retractable pencil, pilot permaball pen, winsor & newton compact watercolor paints.

Thanks for looking :)

Progress - Art Journal page

Just for something a little different, I thought I'd share a couple of progress pics of an Art Journal page I'm currently working on.

The first pic is of my background, I gesso'd both pages then using a Prima brick stencil, i sprayed the background using tattered angels glimmermist in walnut. Next I sprayed both pages with helmar fixative to prevent the glimmermist from smudging, then I randomly added some gesso to add a little texture and interest and sprayed some tattered angels glimmermist in olive vine.

The second pic shows a selection of elements I am currently deciding on for placement so nothing is stuck down as yet. I've got some fabric tape there which I would like to add but still trying to work out where lol.

I hope to finish this page by the weekend after which I'll share the finished page. Also, my next blog post will be my weekly collage journal page which this week I used my watercolors so look out for that! Thanks for looking :)

Collage Journal entry

Here's my Collage Journal entry for this week, phew I managed to catch up before the start of the new week!!

This page features the packaging from an ephemera pack, washi tape, charcoal pencil, wax pastel crayons, gesso, stamps, seam binding, book paper, a silver brad & staples. A bit of an experimental messy page but I am happy with the end result. Hope you like it and thanks for looking.

Music Video - Ant Music by Adam and the Ants

I love Music and quite often I have nights where I will search through You Tube for video clips of what I feel like listening to at the time. My taste varies, I like a wide variety of styles. Tonight I was in an early 80's mood & a very early favourite of mine was Adam & the Ants, I loved 'Adam's' costumes, he looked very cool lol, I even had some of those feather clips when I was younger hehehe.

...so unplug the jukebox and do us all a favour, that music's lost it's taste so try another flavour..Antmusic!!..

Collage Journal entry

I'll try this post again and hopefully it won't disappear into cyberspace!!! o.O LOL

Welcome to another Collage Monday post! Ok, I confess I did miss a week, but life got in the way, my kids went back to school and I had a bit to do! I did, however make a start on it last week and finished it on Sunday lol, so I think I'm safe! For this page the background is a inked up piece of greaseproof paper stuck to the pages, I spread some titan buff golden fluid acrylic paint around the edges, then I collaged small pieces of random ephemera paper bits and added some Tim Holtz filmstrip and finished with the title using both Kaisercraft & Glitz alpha stickers. Hope you like it and thanks for looking.

She Art canvas share

Hi everyone, I wanted to share a canvas I did a while back of a She Art girl. This is the first 'girl' I've actually shared!

She Art was created by Christy Tomlinson >>> linky in side bar, Christy currently has 2 online workshops which teaches you how to create your own She Art girls, I've taken both and loved them.

For this canvas, I used products which Christy designed specifically for She Art, combination of die cuts, paints, Faber Castell india ink pens, plastic doily stencil, printed papers, rubons and a couple of other items.

Hope you like her, it is titled 'She knew she was loved'

Have a great Tuesday! :)

Collage Journal entry

Here's my Collage Monday journal entry for this week.

For this weeks collage I stuck down some scraps of paper I had leftover from doing a scrapbook layout. I added some french book text and sprayed some pink glimmermist, added a tag with some flowers, book text and glimmermist and a title with some glitz alphas and thickers.

Thanks for looking!

Canvas & Journal cover share & a layout spoiler!!

Hello! ok, so I know I'm a little thin on the posts lol and I noticed that my last 2 were about the same topic Collage Monday 'weekly'!! And considering I have nearly finished my collage page for this week, I was like hmmm, 3 posts in a row may not be that exciting!

Sooooooo, to mix it up a bit, for a change lol, I'm going to share a few things with you!

First up, this is a canvas I did a couple months back. It is a 8x8 size and is based on a monthly Mixed Media kit by Mixed Media Artist Christy Tomlinson in her Scarlet Lime store HERE

Each month Christy does a video tutorial canvas of that particular months kit. The one I am sharing is from April, HERE is Christy's canvases (she did 3), and here is mine, which I pretty much just replicated into one.

Next up is a Journal cover I recently finished (still working on the contents of the journal so that will be a later post). The journal is a Montage Daybook by Amy Tan for American Crafts, it is part of the 'sketchbook' range (I am loving this range right now!. The actual book cover has camera pics all over it and originally it was my intention to have the images peeking through but it just didn't work out that way! It is very messy and grungy and it was loads of fun to do! It was inspired by an online class I took with Christy Tomlinson called 'Your Living Canvas' Christy actually worked in one of these books for one part of the class and this is my version.

And finally, I have a spoiler and a bit of a surprise...well more a surprise for me lol, I have actually done a scrapbook 'paper' layout! I have not done a traditional actual layout page for um, gosh, maybe nearly 2 years??! I'm really liking it and I've wanted to do this style for a long time, here's a sneak peak and I promise I will share later....long as I like how it turns out hehehe, I just have little finishing touches to do.

Finally, please go and check out my friend Lita's blog as I mentioned she is also doing Collage Monday, plus has recently done a great blog post about her Travel Art Kit! Awesome how it all came together, I am definitely on the hunt for a suitable carry bag for my supplies, something more practical & compact than a shopping bag which is heavy, bulky & just not cute! lol

Thanks for letting me share & look out for my Collage Monday 'weekly' page tomorrow :)

Collage Journal entry

Here's my Collage Journal entry for this week! I had a ball with this one, it did start off rather slowly but I'm pleased with how it turned out.

I am loving using different tapes lately, Washi Tape, Artisan Tape, Masking Tape, Fabric Tape YUM!! So with this I knew I wanted to layer on some tapes, which I did and I love it.

Check out Donna Downeys Collage Monday HERE for this week.

We have school holidays here so the kids have been getting their craft on too lol, too cold and wet to do anything outside! I've been playing in my study/studio quite a bit the past few days, which I am loving. Hope you like my latest collage entry and have a great week :)

My good friend Lita has listed her first page and is lovely. We actually started our pages together on Saturday night, I love how different and unique they are! If you wanna join in too, leave a link back in the comments, I'd love to see your work :) Thanks for looking :)

Remains of the Day Journal - pages coming together!

Hi!! Just wanted to share a quick update of my fabric journal. I have started putting some of my gathered ephemera bits and pieces together and begun stitching them together forming my pages. I chose to sew my pages together with a golden yellow thread which I'm loving. I haven't actually sewed any for a few days now, I've had other things on my agenda including the massive tidying up job of my study/studio craft room, I need to work on prettying it up with some color & artsy goodness :) Anyway, here's a couple pics of my fabric journal pages so far, once it's all done I will attempt to take pics of each so you can see the detail. Thanks for looking :)

Remains of the Day Journal - starting my pages

Hi there, Last night I made a start on my pages for my fabric journal I made last week. I started sorting through all of my ephemera bits and pieces, transparencies, collage and various pages including old book paper, patterned paper, music paper and some pages from one of my copies of Somerset Studio! They have gorgeous paper in those mags... I hope to continue working on these tonight, here's a quick pic I took last night, I'm loving everything about this journal, so much fun :) Thanks for looking!

My ROD journal cover, what an awesome class, thanks Mary Ann Moss:)My first 'Remains of the day' journal cover.

On Friday night, June 8, I finally managed to make a start on my 'Remains of the day Journal' which is an online class by Mary Ann Moss. I'll post the video preview link for her class in a separate post, I love the video, very catchy!

I had a great time working on this cover and was really surprised and proud of how it turned out. I still need to do some finishing touches to it and start on the inside pages.

These pics show what I did, they are from my new flickr site. Oh and as you can probably already see I have updated my blog background, I'm loving it!

Long time no blog!....Summertime Sun

Oh my goodness, I can't believe it's the middle of March already and I'm only now doing my first blog post for the year, bad Karen lol. Well, better late than never, right??!! I thought I should firstly bring my blog background out of Christmas mode, (I really loved that Christmas background I must say), I came across one that I thought was really nice & perfect, hope you like it too.

We've come to the end of 'Summer' here and Autumn has begun, although it's a gorgeous day today, 31 degrees. I love Summertime, I love the warmth of the sun, I love being able to get in a pool or go to the beach, I love wearing my thongs everyday...I got myself a new pair of Havaianas with some bling, they are too cute & so comfy. I also love it because it's Christmas season and in the New Year it's our chance to get away for a week and go to Bundalong (near Yarrawonga, VIC), we are very lucky to be able to stay at a relatives onsite caravan and totally chill out and RELAX!! We jump in the pool everyday, most days it's up around 40 degrees, so the pool is the best place lol.

goofy pic of me up at Bundalong, Jan 2012 :)

This year we also took the kids to the beach a few times, they LOVED it! We usually go to Carrum Downs Beach. I like that beach, it's the closest to us and has gorgeous sand and is pretty clean and as I suffer from psoriasis the salt water is really good for my skin.

I can't leave this post without mentioning of course any Artsy goodness, I have been Arting up a storm, I've participated in a couple of online courses, one was free! I joined in a Arty card swap, I've been experimenting with lots of new techniques (new to me) and generally just been playing....heaps! I'll leave you with a sneak pic of one of the projects, this was a free online class I took. It is at the start of my second stage into one of the projects. I'll post more pics & the info to that & more soon :)
